MATCHING NUMBERS MELB DELIVERED GOLDEN GHOST
Sold New in 1924 to Mr. Solomon Green of 360 Collins St, Melbourne, this Gold Ghost was his 3rd and Last Ghost, an Impressive Feat for the Self Made Bookie/Race Horse Owner/Philanthropist. Ordered New with Brass Plating rather than the Standard Nickel, the Ghost was Quickly Mistaken for being Finished in Gold, a Rumour that Stayed with the Rolls Royce its Whole Life.
Mr. Green would Replace 58TM with a Rolls Royce New Phantom in 1930, and as such the Ghost was Sold to Mr. Jim Hackett of NSW, who would Retain Possession some 28 Years, over which time he Commissioned Smith and Waddington Ltd to Coach Build a New Saloon Body.
By 1966 the 58TM was a part of the Faris Palfreyman Collection (of 18 Silver Ghosts!), but had been Stripped of its Smith and Waddington Ltd Body. It would pass through Two Further Owners Without Bodywork, Until the Late 80s when it was Purchased by Mr. Russell Kumar who Commenced the Comprehensive Restoration.
Purchased by the 8th and Most Recent Owner in 1990, Mr. John Smith Acquired the Restoration Project and with the Help of Legendary West Australian Coachbuilder, Roger Fry and Engine Rebuilder, Nick Sims, was able to Win its Class in the 1999 Rolls Royce Owners Club of Australia, Canberra Federal Rally!
Restored to an Utterly Superb Standard, the Finished Ghost Paid Homage to its Slightly Miss-Guided History, with its Brass Plating Replaced by Genuine Gold (with the Exception of the Radiator Surround, in Marine Grade Brass), once and for all Earning its Title as the Gold Ghost!
Never Happy with Anything Other Than Perfection, Mr Smiths Recent Expenditure on the Gold Ghost Includes the Fitment of Hidden Power Steering, a Bare Metal Repaint in 2016, a Rebuilt Radiator in 2018, as well as Service Maintenance by The Derby Works of Mount Waverly, Victoria.
With 99 Years of History and Provenance, 58TM is Wonderfully Supported by a Dedicated Website, Covering its History, Owners, Restoration and Full Specification.
