This '67 Mercury was manufactured in Ford's Dearborn, Michigan plant on the 12th April 1967 as a Cougar GT 2-dr hardtop coupe. The trim/body plate identifies it as painted in Onyx Black with Black crinkle vinyl interior trim and front bucket seats. It was fitted with a 390cui-4v V8 engine, C6 3-speed automatic transmission paired to a 9" rear differential with 3.00:1 gearing and delivered to the Los Angeles, California DSO, where it was sold and has spent all its life.

This is a rare original 'Black-on-Black' GT car, and in fact only 966 were ever built with these paint/trim/engine codes.

Being a California car was good for this Big Cat, with the only signs of rust being a few bubbles in the passenger door. The floors, quarters, frame rails, shock towers, etc are all in excellent condition. The paint is an older repaint that still shines beautifully. There are plenty of small imperfections & blemishes on close inspection but from 10 feet, this one is a beauty. This Cougar could easily be used as-is for most enthusiasts as a 'no-guilt' driver. Should someone want to repaint the car, it is quite straight with no obvious signs of prior accident damage.

Inside the car, the interior is in great shape. The carpet and front seat upholstery were just replaced. The original seating was still in good condition but the seat foam had turned to dust in the prolonged dry California weather. There is some wear inside, with the dash being warped .... just the normal wear and tear.

Under the bonnet the 390 big block looks great. The factory air cleaner, valve covers and AC pump are all there. The original smog system was removed and is boxed in the trunk. The previous owner was a professional mechanic and rebuilt the engine to mostly stock specs, save the aluminum intake manifold. The C6 transmission was also rebuilt. Both operate nicely. Ford did not VIN stamp these cars so the only thing to confirm an engine as original is the date code, and this engine lines up with the cars production date, so it could very well be number's matching.

The wheels appear to be the originals though they are not noted on the Marti report. Oddly no wheel covers were noted either, so it would make sense that they were original. They are in good condition and include a matching spare and the tyres have just been replaced.

The air conditioning will need to be serviced as it hasnt been used in years. The heater core was just replaced and the heater box cleaned out. Both the power-assisted front disc brakes and power steering work nicely and effortlessly.

This is a great weekend cruiser, and if you want to stand out in a 'Sea of Mustangs', then this is the car for you!
