1972 DATSUN 240Z

1972 DATSUN 240Z - UNCLYE PHIL'S TOP PICK OF THE MONTH

$100,000

It’s not standard, but there’s a lot to love about this one

I remember clapping my peepers on a Datsun 240Z for the first time at the Melbourne Motor Show. It looked like a Jag E-Type for half the money, but not half the performance. And it elevated the Datsun brand big time here. I’ve sat my bum in a few and they’re a good thing to punt along a winding road and can happily dawdle along in traffic. And the design has easily stood the test of time.

This Series 2 version, has spent considerable time in storage at one point and has received a comprehensive resto, including a back to bare metal respray in its original metallic silver. Inside, the black seats have been refurbished and are like new and the carpet and cabin materials are original. It has done 76,006 miles since new and its 2.4lt six cylinder engine has been rebuilt and wears a set of triple 40 DCOE Webers and a stage 3 cam.

1980 FORD FALCON XD

$26,000

Ford-XD-side-photo.jpg

The straight-LINE design of the XD mimicked the UK Granada and were a complete opposite to the coke-bottle styling of the previous XC. I am scratching my head to remember the last time I saw an XD Falcon this clean and tidy that wasn’t an ESP. Mechanically, this is the way to go with a Falcon of the ’70s and ’80s persuasion. A 351ci V8 up front bolted to a manual gearbox, is the same configuration as Dickie Johnson, who won his first Bathurst, in an XD. This one puts out 400 kilowatts. The Convo Pro wheels give it a tough look in an attractive and unusual hue and the interior is like new. There aren’t many XDs left like this one.

1979 HONDA CIVIC

$8000

When Honda lobbed the Civic on shores, we’d been used to a diet of small cars from the UK. Sure there were Datsuns and Toyotas as well, but Honda’s Civic was a cut above them all and cemented the company’s future, around the world. Being a ’79 model this is one of the last of the first-generation Civics sold here and this three-owner car has done 126,000km. The rear drum brakes have recently been overhauled and a new water-pump fitted. It still has the original delivery plastic on the door trims. It has a bit of rust, which is to be expected, and it comes with its original books and sales receipt from new.

1987 PORSCHE 944 TURBO

$35,995

Porsche went mad at one stage, claiming the 911’s days were numbered and front-engined cars were the future. Luckily not everyone at Stuttgart drank from the same schnapps glass and the 911 stayed. An affordable way of sticking a Porsche, under your porch is with a 944, or the sportier 944 turbo. This one has been with the same owner for the past 22 years, complete with service history it shows 227,000km. It’s showing its age with some minor wear and tear to the interior trim, including some paint damage from a car bra, definitely worth a look though.
