The Mercedes-Benz R107 generation of SLs and SLCs (C107) were produced from 1971 all the way through 1989 – making it the second longest running production series for the mark, behind the G-Class.

The R107 SL was the consummate Mercedes-Benz roadster, with two seats and a detachable roof. This generation succeeded the ‘Pagoda Roof’ W113, a prized and blue-chip collectible.

As the preceding ‘Pagoda Roof’ Benz continues to trend upward, increasingly out of reach for the mainstream enthusiast, we’re seeing a trickle-down effect – with the R107-generation increasingly desired, with subsequent asking prices and auction prices steadily creeping upwards.

The 1973 450SL on sale here, isn’t the normal R107 you’d normally find in Australia.

It’s a unique import, right-hand drive but presents in USA/European spec; with the electronically fuel injected 4.5lt V8 engine. The seller claims that this car is potentially the only genuine USA/EU-spec EFI V8 in the country.

Beyond the rare mechanical spec, the car sports a striking red respray, meticulously carried out by the Ford Dealer it was purchased from 20 years ago. The car was completely torn down for the respray.

The seller states that the car has been over-serviced beyond regular servicing, and has only been driven 5000kms in the past 20 years.

The car reportedly is completely rust free, with immaculate chrome work, and the paint remaining in near-flawless condition at the hands of its "expert" owner.

The car has had a host of maintenance carried out, including: refurbished brakes and wheels, near-new tyres, all rubber replaced, all new bushes, a bevy of replaced trim.

The car has travelled just 144,000kms, and seems to come from a loving owner.

The car is currently listed for $55,000, roadworthy inclusive. It looks like a stunning car, and if you’re after a European classic – this is a seriously tempting package.

The car is based in Queensland, and you can check out the full listing here!
