Recent auction highlights from around the world...

1969 Dodge Daytona

Sold: A$332,000
Mecum

Mecum in the USA recently conducted an extraordinary auction, of the Eddie Vannoy collection. There were some 100 cars on offer – not such a staggering amount – plus an exceptional collection of signs and memorabilia.

The sale literally ran full-time for a week. One of the prime lots was this spectacular Daytona which went for solid money. We've seen them go for a lot more, so it was interesting to see this one settle for a more reasonable number.

1981 DMC-12 De Lorean

Sold: $54,000

Half the charm of these el-weirdo gems is the exposed stainless steel body, but if you have to paint one it might as well be red. The story goes that it was one of three cars painted this way, by a San Diego dealer about a year after delivery. This one sat unused for 21 years and came with an incredibly detailed report on its condition.

1975 MGB GT V8

Sold: $29,500
H&H Auctioneers

This looks like proof to us that there is still good buying out there in classic car land. Though not strictly as it left the factory, this MG had some nice mods, such as a lift in engine capacity to 3.9lt, matched to a five-speed transmission with upgraded clutch. It's running a custom-built aluminium radiator and sits on replica Minilite wheels. A thoroughly nice package.

1993 Cadillac Allante Northstar

Sold: A$8800
Hemmings

This is a car we've not seen on our shores. And if you do by some chance have one in the shed, get in touch, please. It's a bit of an oddball by any standard. Pininfarina in Italy designed and bullt these bodies for Cadillac and we reckon they're grossly under-appreciated in the USA. For that sort of money, we'd have two! Under the bonnet is a quad cam 4.6lt V8 claiming a healthy-enough 295 horses, driving through the front wheels.

On the block:

1991 Honda NSX

Shannons Timed Online Auction
19-26 August, 2020
Estimate: $100,000-125,000

R:\Web\WebTeam\Mary\Motoring\UC 442\auction\honda-nsx.jpg

Shannons is about to launch another online timed auction and the lots are just starting to gather, so details on this Honda NSX are scant. However we'd expect to see plenty of interest in this first-gen corporate hero car. This is one of those models that grows in stature and appeal as it ages.
