One of the greatest car chases in cinematic history was in the movie Bullitt. Trying to outrun Steve McQueen in his Mustang were the baddies in their Dodge Charger until they crashed and burned, literally. This ‘68 Charger was shipped to Australia by the vendor, where a ground up three year resto-mod commenced. Up front is a hand built 426ci Gen II Hemi V8 and the body is finished in black. Finishing it off is a set of 18-inch American Racing Torque Thrust style wheels.

No, it's not an A9X, but you’d reckon it might have been given the price. It’s a factory built SS with the combo of a 308ci V8, 4-speed manual finished in Tuxedo Black. It has been fully restored, show 96,841km on the odo and rolls on 15-inch Simmons wheels. Fitted with the A9X spoilers and bonnet intake, it’s believed the air-conditioning and the flares were dealer fitted when new. Built October 1976 makes it one of the first V8 LX SS to roll off the line.

1967 Shelby GT500

Sold: $250,500
Collecting Cars

It's not every day you see a genuine Shelby GT500. Behind the grille lies a 428ci V8 with 355 neddies, sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual box. This GT500 built at Shelby’s Los Angeles facility was first registered in 1967 and shows 44,887 miles on the clock. Just 2048 were produced. Its owner for the past 13 years has clearly cared for it. It sold with its Shelby user manual and history from 2008.

Jaguar XJS

You can snaffle one for as little as $15k and a decent one for under forty grand. Yes, these two-door 5.0-5.3lt V12 monsters are complex and prone to throwing the odd tanti and refusing to budge. But when they are on song, they sound magnificent and waft along at a decent clip. Convertibles fetch more than coupes and if you go down this path, have someone knowledgeable about Jags with you. Someone who has worked on or owned one. Start at your local Jag club. It’s only a matter of time before one winds up in Guido’s shed.
