Mid-engine sports

Drawing a visual line to the much-loved 911 series, the Cayman S has very much its own variation on the theme, allowing for a mid-engine layout. That alone gives it a dynamic advantage of its more traditional rear-engined siblings.

According to our report on the later 2013 model: "At the Cayman’s international launch in southern Portugal, two-time World Rally Champion and driving legend Walter Rohrl said, 'On dry roads, the Cayman S is the maximum car we have'. He went on to explain that the friendlier, mid-engined balance of the Cayman makes it easier for the average driver to extract everything from it, where the rear-engined 911 requires greater skill." The same principles are true for this earlier car.

This wide-bodied example runs the 3.4lt flat six running Porsche’s Variocam system and auto transmission. It claims a 0-100km/h time of 6.1sec and is showing 152,000km on the odo.

Pennant Hills Auto in Sydney has this one at $69,990.
