Potential collector

While there has been a lot of sentiment expressed over older Australian-built cars, a surprising number of models still aren't on the collector radar, though in some cases that may change.

The Tickford-tuned Falcon XR6 in ED to EL are a pretty good example. More lively performance, suspension upgrades and some cosmetic tweaks came as part of the package.

In the case of the Ford ED-EL XR6 series, Cliff Chambers writes: "We don’t have exact figures, but informed estimates suggest that more than 25,000 of the six-cylinder ED-EL XR models, including scarce utes and wagons, were made. Where they have all gone is a mystery.

"Market apathy has certainly played a role, with myopic enthusiasts happy to pay $25-30,000 for slow and basic 1970s models while pristine XR6s sat unsold at less than half that money."

This example is advertised as having been a daily driver and kept in generally good and original condition.

It's an auto with 263,000 on the odoand comes with the original keys and books. Located in Merimbula in NSW, it's on the market at $9500.
