Very few cars can claim the incredible runaway success story of the launch of the Ford Mustang, where sales in the first year exceeded Ford’s wildest expectations.

The nameplate in 2024 celebrates 60 years of production in various forms, some more desirable than others.

In a piece on the anniversary we note: "Initially offered as a two-door hardtop and convertible, with a 2+2 fastback added in September 1964, the Mustang was an instant success with 22,000 orders taken on the first day, and over 400,000 sold in its first year, against an estimate of 100,000. One million Mustangs found owners in the first two years and over six decades and six-generations, the 10 millionth was sold in its 50th anniversary year. Mustang is the most popular sportscar in the world."

This example is running a 289ci V8 with three-speed automatic transmission.

It has been treated to a restoration and is with the Healey Factory in Melbourne, priced at $79,500.
