Classic hardtop
As anyone who is into seventies muscle cars will tell you, subtlety is over-rated – big and bold is what you’re looking for. Ford’s XC Falcon Cobra hardtop hits the target on that count.
In a feature on an Option 97 variant, Mark Higgins wrote: "The XC Falcon entered its final production year in 1978, marking the end of the road for the hardtop Falcon. The last examples rolled off the production line in March leaving Ford with a headache. What to do with 400 body shells?
"Around this time Edsel Ford II arrived in Australia taking up the role of Assistant Managing Director, and it is he who is credited for the limited-edition Falcon Cobra, which was primarily a metal-moving marketing exercise, albeit a very successful one."
This example is number 202 of 400, with the 4.9lt V8 and four-speed manual transmission.
It’s with Australian Muscle Car Sales in Sydney, priced at $234,990.
