Keeping it in the family, Dad bought it new and I’ve had it over 23 years

It’s a fairly rare car in this condition and this one is unrestored. It’s a 3.3 litre six fitted with a five-speed Borg Warner manual.

Back in 1982 you could only get the five-speed if you ordered the 3.3 litre motor – it was purely an economy thing.

After 82 you could get the five-speed in anything.

It’s not a heavy car, so it gets along just fine. On the highway at 100km/h it’s doing a smidge over 2000rpm.

It’s probably a better balanced car than a V8. It’s nice and smooth and it’s good in the corners.

Being an S-Pak it has the heavier springs, so you can hook around corners a little better.
It’s running disc front brakes and drum rears.

It’s a family car. My dad bought it new and I’ve had it for over 23 years. I bought it from him for $4000 in 1994, when I was 20, and I’ve hung on to it.

What do I like about it? I like the look of it, the simplicity, it’s nice and smooth on the road.

And it’s the right colour! I feel young when I’m in it, because I was young when I bought it, so it takes me back.
