RESTORED BJ8 WITH AIR CONDITIONING
Introduced in April 1965, the Phase III BJ8 (3000 MkIII) was the last Production 6 Cylinder Austin Healey Update. The BJ8 Interior Trim was a More Luxurious Standard than previous, with a Burr Walnut Veneer dash, Wind Up Windows, and a 'One Touch' Convertible Hood with Zip-Out Rear Window. The performance from the 150hp 3 Litre 6 Cylinder Engine was a Far Cry from the 90hp 2.6 Litre 4 Cylinder Engine of the first Austin Healey, the 100 introduced in 1952.
According to the accompanying Heritage Certificate, this 1967 3000 MkIII left the Abingdon factory on 28th June 1967, the last year of series production of the Big Healey and was despatched to the US on 14th August 1967. The BJ8 was imported by The Healey Factory in 2010 as a Restoration Project, and subsequently purchased by its new owner in 2014.
It then underwent a Comprehensive Restoration beginning with a New Kilmartin Chassis. The BJ8 presents beautifully, now being finished in Metallic Golden Beige, the Coachwork Highlighted by 72 Spoke Chrome Wire Wheels and Gleaming Brightwork including a pair of 5"Chrome Lucas Driving Lights. The Cockpit has been Retrimmed, the Seats in Red Leather, with Matching Door Trims and Centre Console, whilst the Quality Carpets are also in Red. The Interior features Air-Conditioning for Your Comfort in the warmer weather along with the Optional Smiths Heater for the cooler days, a Wood Rimmed Steering Wheel and a classic Burl Walnut Dash. The Rear Centre Console has a Removable Panel containing 2 cupholders, this however can be replaced with a Spare Panel without them. The Modern Entertainment System with Popup Screen also features Satellite Navigation. The One Touch Hood is in High Quality Black Fabric as is the hood cover.
A number of Mechanical Improvements have been made including Upgraded Front Disc Brakes with EBC Turbo Rotors and Aluminium 4 Pot Calipers, Rear Disc Brakes, Rear Telescopic Shock Absorbers, Alternator for Improved Charging and a Spin-On Oil Filter Conversion for ease of servicing. The engine is fitted with Triple 2" SU HD8 carburettors on Individual Alloy Manifolds, an Extractor Exhaust System, Alloy Sump, Texas Kooler Multi-Blade Fan and Electric Thermatic Cooling Fan for Improved Engine Cooling, and all of this topped off with an Alloy Rocker Cover with Flip-Top Filler Lid.
This Beautifully Restored and Presented BJ8 is a Reliable, Very Comfortable Sports Car with Long Legged Touring Ability, whilst still delivering Improved Period Performance.
