The 996 was Introduced in 1998, and with it came Many Changes to the Iconic 911, with the Biggest Being a Move Away from Air-Cooling of the Engine, to Water-Cooling. The 996 was Also a Physically Larger 911 than it's Predecessor, Allowing for a Noticeably More Spacious Cabin, all while Reducing the Weight by 50kg.
The Targa, Introduced in 2002, was Powered by the New, Improved 3.6L M96, Rated at 235kW & 370Nm and was Fitted with an Electric, Sliding Panoramic Glass Roof, Capable of Operating in 8 Seconds, with an Opening Twice that of the Coupe's Sunroof, Allowing for a Near Cabrio Experience while Retaining the Coupe's Convenience and Security. In a First for 911's, the Rear Window was Hinged, Allowing Access to the Rear Seat Compartment for use as Luggage Space.
This 2002 Targa was sold new by AFN, Chiswick (Porsche Centre West London) on 3rd December 2002 and remained in the UK until 2009. During this time it was routinely serviced by Porsche Centre West London and finally the Porsche Centre Mid-Sussex in March 2008 with an odometer reading of 27,940 km. The Targa was brought to Australia as a Personal Import and granted Australian Compliance in April 2009. Since its arrival in NSW Servicing has been by Porsche Centre Willoughby and Autohaus Hamilton, with the obligatory IMS Retrofit carried out in March 2015. The Targa relocated to Victoria in 2017/2018 and has been serviced since then by NineAuto in Highett.
